Group Journalism, Attribution & Copyright Policy

This policy explains HPT's "group journalism" model and the copyright basis on which it operates.

  1. What group journalism means. Alongside its own reporting, HPT identifies credible third-party coverage relevant to housing and property — informative developments as well as public grievances or disputes — including video content such as from YouTube, and republishes or references it together with HPT's own notes, context and explanation.
  2. Authenticity standard. Third-party content used in this way must be genuine and independently verifiable. HPT does not use, and does not knowingly rely on, artificially generated, fabricated, or otherwise inauthentic source material.
  3. Attribution. The original creator or source of any third-party content is identified wherever it is used, and HPT's own commentary is kept visibly distinct from the original material.
  4. Copyright basis. Use of third-party content under this model is undertaken in reliance on the fair dealing exception at Section 52 of the Copyright Act, 1957, for the purposes of criticism, review, and reporting of current events, and is limited to what is reasonably necessary for that purpose.
  5. Takedown requests. A rights holder who objects to the use of their content on HPT may request its removal or modification by writing to editor@hptimes.news, identifying the specific content and the basis of the objection. HPT will review such requests promptly and in good faith.
