Code of Ethics & Editorial Independence

This Code of Ethics governs how Housing & Property Times ("HPT") gathers, verifies and publishes its reporting, and how its editorial independence is maintained.

  1. Secular and independent by structure. HPT is secular and non-partisan as a matter of institutional policy, not merely as the stated intent of any one person. The personal religious, political or ideological beliefs of any founder, editor, contributor, or staff member are kept entirely separate from editorial decisions, and play no part in what HPT covers or how it is covered.
  2. Verified sourcing. HPT reports only on the basis of verifiable primary material — a government notification, court order or judgment, a regulatory circular (such as MahaRERA, MHADA or CIDCO), or established reporting that can itself be traced to such a source. Unverified rumour or unverifiable social media claims are not published as fact.
  3. Marking uncertainty. Where a fact cannot be fully verified at the time of publication, HPT states this plainly (for example, as "unverified" or "alleged") rather than presenting it as established.
  4. Sub judice caution. In reporting on matters before the Bombay High Court, the Supreme Court of India, or any other court or tribunal, HPT takes care not to prejudice a pending proceeding, and distinguishes clearly between a person who is accused or alleged to have acted in a certain way and one who has been held liable or convicted by a competent court.
  5. Right of reply. A person, society, developer, authority or other party named adversely in an HPT report may seek a right of reply. Such requests should be sent to editor@hptimes.news and will be considered under HPT's Corrections & Grievance Redressal Policy.
  6. No advertorial disguised as news. Editorial content is kept separate from paid or sponsored content, which is labelled as such under HPT's Advertising & Sponsored Content Disclosure Policy.
  7. Group journalism standard. Where HPT reposts or draws on third-party content (including video content) under its group journalism model, the same verification and neutrality standards apply, as set out in HPT's Group Journalism, Attribution & Copyright Policy.
